Journal Monitor (OAM-CH)

About the Journal Monitor (OAM-CH)

On this page you find Open Access shares of articles published in scientific journals by authors affiliated to swissuniversities members as provided by the Journal Monitor (OAM-CH). You can filter by year, institution or make a variety of comparisons. The graphs provide a sample of the evaluation options available on the Journal Monitor (OAM-CH).

On behalf of the Consortium, Forschungszentrum Jülich has developed a Journal Monitor for Switzerland based on the Open Access Monitor (OAM). More

The collected data distinguishes between the accessibility of the published content based on the established OA typology (Diamond, Gold, Green, Hybrid) and Closed.

This Monitor is based on DOI, restricted to journal articles, and uses OpenAlex as a data source, among others.

The use of data from international publication databases leads to disciplinary and linguistic biases due to the strong focus on science, technology and medicine and the over-representation of scientific articles in English.

To provide an alternative data source, this project conducts an annual national survey among swissuniversities members. The collected data and visualisations can be found in the Repository Monitor.

Open / Closed ratio on national level (accumulated)

This graph shows the Open / Closed ratio of the collected journal articles published in Switzerland over the last five years (2020-2024).

More information on definitions and data
  • Definitions and explanations of the Journal Monitor (OAM-CH) are available in the Wiki.
  • This visualisation is based on various merged data sources.
  • Definition of the Open Access typology according to Unpaywall.
  • Visualisations are available for the following participating institutions. Please note that the charts on this website are based on data from ROR parent organisations, without cumulating the data of ROR child organisations. To counteract this bias, we recommend using the expert tool, especially for evaluations of the following institutions with a high proportion of publications linked to child organisations: HES-SO, OST and University Hospital of Lausanne.
  • Please visit the Journal Monitor (OAM-CH), built for expert analysis, for more ways to visualise, analyse and download the data.
